The Property

The Five Sons Estate property is one that is well enshrined in the history of the Mornington Peninsula.

In the 1930's a company, Passiflora Plantations was established on the site with the aim of becoming Australia's leading exporter of passion fruit and associated products. Land was cleared in 1931, with the planting of passion fruit vines commencing in earnest in 1932. By 1938 the business was in full swing, producing 43,500 cases of product. As part of the ongoing development, a dwelling and several sheds were built, some of which still stand today and will be refurbished as part of the Five Sons Estate visitor centre.

Around 40 years ago the property changed hands when a member of the Seppelt wine family bought the estate and converted it to grape vines, thus establishing one of the very first vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula.

It was subsequently sold to WJ Seabrook, a well known Melbourne wine merchant, who continued with the vineyard until 1967 when a bushfire wiped out the vines.

Bob and Sue Peime purchased the 170 acre property in 1998.
